Partners who actively argue with each other stay together for a long time. The psychologists from Great Britain came to this paradoxical conclusion.
Psychologists from the UK found that those partners who prefer not to shut themselves up in their grievances, but actively argue, respecting their differences, are much more likely to stay together for a longer period. But those men and women who seek to avoid discussing various kinds of problems in the relationship, often part. Psychologists have studied the relationship of more than 1,000 people and found that the ability to constructively argue 10 times more often makes partners happy in a relationship than trying to avoid conflicts and keep silent about their grievances.
"The biggest mistake that partners can make is ignoring common problems," the study authors say. - We feel something, we are eating something, but we continue to remain silent, because we do not want to offend a partner, or we think that this dispute will lead to aggravation of relations. As a result, irritability accumulates to the point where you, as they say, tear off the valve. Do not avoid constructive dialogues and do not need to be afraid to discuss the acutest topics, if you want to maintain a relationship with your loved one. "
More than 80% of respondents in the course of the study said that the tactic of concealing problems was one of the main reasons why their former relations fell apart. For half this was an excellent example, and now they prefer to discuss the difficulties they face. But more importantly, only less than 20% of these kinds of hard conversations end in real quarrels, and in most cases, the partners find a way out that fits both of them, which strengthens the union.
