Every seven days make up a week. There are 12 months in a year, a day is divided into 12 hours of the day and night, and there are 12 signs of the Zodiac. And the number 13, which follows 12 breaks this harmony. Perhaps that's why quite a lot of people think that every time the 13th day of the month falls on Friday, something unpleasant may happen. This phobia is not scientifically grounded, but many people try to protect themselves from any information this day - suddenly it will be unpleasant.
What do you think about the number thirteen? does your Slavic bride have such a phobia?
Christians may have some fears regarding the number 13 and Fridays though religions usually do not approve the superstitions. Nevertheless, it was 13 people who attended the Last Supper of Christ's Supper - he and 12 of his apostles. Judas, who betrayed Christ, was the 13th apostle who did not come to the beginning of the meal. Christ was crucified on Friday.
Some theologians believe that Adam and Eve tasted the forbidden fruit on Friday, and the World Flood also began this day of the week. Christians tried not to start a new business on Friday and not go on a trip. Especially the sailors adhered to this - they were afraid to go on a trip on Friday more than to take a woman on the ship. There is a sea legend that specifically to end this superstition, at the beginning of the last century, the English government made a team recruitment for the ship. In the morning of next Friday, the ship goes on a voyage ... And disappeared forever.
The traditions of other nationalities and beliefs also do not really favour this day. In Scandinavian mythology, the beloved god Baldor was killed by the god Loki, who unexpectedly joined the 13th to the feast of the gods at the table in Odin's palace, which was usually followed by twelve gods.
The same belief spread to other European countries after the Great Plague of the mid-seventeenth century. It was believed that if 13 people were sitting at the table, one of them would necessarily die, which, in general, is not a miracle at the level of development of medicine at that time.
But the Chinese, on the contrary, believe that the number 13 brings them luck - and for the right to have a mobile phone number containing this "digitization" are willing to pay money.
Superstition is harmless, but in 1953 the New York Times newspaper reported: "It is estimated that any Friday, the 13th, causes the country a loss of $ 250,000,000."
