The first semi-final of Eurovision 2017 was held in Kiev on May 9. The 62nd contest was held in Kyiv as a Ukrainian girl singer Jamala won the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "1944", which scored 534 points. The first ten finalists of the international song contest Eurovision 2017 were determined by the results of the semifinal.
The participants from Sweden and Portugal, who bookmakers have already called rivals for the third place are among them.
In the first semifinal, there were the representatives of 18 countries. According to the voting results of the viewers and the jury, ten artists: Robin Bengtsson (Sweden), Artsvik (Armenia), Salvador Sobral (Portugal), Dihaj (Azerbaijan), Demy (Greece), Isaiah (Australia), SunStroke Project (Moldova), Hovig (Cyprus), Kasia Mos (Poland) and Blanche (Belgium) got into Final.
The main favourites of Eurovision 2017, according to the bookmakers, are representatives of Italy and Bulgaria. However, among the participants of the first semifinal, two countries are claiming the third place - Sweden and Portugal. Both of them have reached the final.
In the final of Eurovision the host country (this year - Ukraine), the big five (Great Britain, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy - the founding countries of Eurovision) will participate, as well as the winners of the two semi-finals.
"Eurovision" is an annual music contest, in which current members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) take part. The first competition took place in the Swiss Lugano in 1956. Since then the Eurovision contests have become an integral part of the European musical tradition.
